Much like Haila Mompié (ex-Bamboleo) and Mayelín, the singer Osdalgia Lesmes is the new Cuban musical hope. She started on television and in theatre before becoming a professional singer at the Tropicana cabaret in '92. Three years ago, Osdalgia went on her first European tour with several female bands like Grupo Canelo and Las Chicas del Sabor. Salsa fans may have recognized her voice on the Afrocuban Jazz Project (with Maraca) cd, where she sings some numbers. 'La Culebra' (the snake) is her first cd. Produced by José Luis Cortès from NG La Banda and played by almost the entire band, this album has a very modern consonant with rap, timba, and jazz as Brazilian influences. You also notice modern arrangements of Benny Moré's compositions, the legendary crooner from the forties. Certain songs like 'Rumberos de Ayer' are remarkable. Nevertheless, we prefer the first part of Osdalgia's c.d. because of the very rhythmic songs. In the opening track, the guanguanco 'Asi es la Humanidad', the Cuban settles her hash with the gossip, with people who always know something on somebody and love to blow it up just to be more interesting. A real NG La Banda number with the typical air sections. The following one 'De Cuba? shoots off like a Los Van Van song and finishes with a nod in the direction of the jazz-standard 'Summertime'. Besides, it's the best song of the album, together with the title song. With 'Beribe' we slowly evolve towards a timba-rap, a genius collaboration with the Cuban trio Amazena, of which we will certainly hear more. The fifth track, the stirring 'Donde estabas Tu?' is a pure son. All things considered not a bad album, but the singer absolutely wants to convince by mixing as much styles as possible, which reduces the dancing opportunities.

Naast Haila Mompié (ex-Bamboleo) en Mayelín is Osdalgia Lesmes zowat de nieuwe Cubaanse belofte als zangeres. Ze startte in film en theater vooraleer in ’92 als professionele zangeres op te treden in het Tropicana cabaret in Havana. Drie jaar geleden ondernam Osdalgia haar eerste Europese toernee met diverse vrouwengroepen onder andere Grupo Canela en Las Chicas del Sabor. Cubaanse muziekliefhebbers zullen haar stem misschien herkend hebben op de Afrocuban Jazz Project cd (met Maraca) waar ze een paar nummers op zingt. 'La Culebra' (de slang) is haar eerste cd. Geproducet door José Luis Cortès van NG La Banda en gespeeld door praktisch de voltallige groep, klinkt de schijf heel modern met zowel rap, timba , jazz als Braziliaanse invloeden. Opvallend zijn de moderne bewerkingen van composities van Benny Moré, de legendarische Cubaanse crooner uit de forties. Sommige nummers als 'Rumberos de Ayer' zijn heel geslaagd. Toch verkozen we het eerste deel van Osdalgia’s cd vanwege de grotere dansbaarheid van de nummers. Op de openingstrack, de guaguanco 'Asi Es La Humanidad', rekent de Cubaanse af met de roddelaars die van iedereen iets afweten en er liefst nog een schepje bijdoen om zichzelf interessant te maken. Een echt NG La Banda nummer met de typische blazers. Opvolger 'De Cuba' start ritmisch net als een Los Van Van-nummer om te eindigen met een knipoog naar de jazz-standaard 'Summertime'. Samen met de titeltrack is dit trouwens het beste nummer van het album. Met 'Beribe' evolueren we dan langzaam naar een timba-rap, een briljante samenwerking met het Cubaanse Trio Amenaza waarvan we ongetwijfeld later nog zullen horen. Track vijf, het meeslepende 'Donde Estabas Tu?' is dan weer een pure son. Alles bij elkaar genomen geen slechte cd, maar de zangeres wil per se overtuigen door zoveel mogelijk stijlen door elkaar te mengen, wat de dansbaarheidsfactor van de muziek doet dalen.

Tout comme Haila Mompié (ex-Bamboleo) et Mayelín, c'est dans la même lignée que la chanteuse Osdalgia Lesmes est le nouvel espoir cubain. Elle a fait ses débuts à la télévision et au théâtre et c'est en '92 qu'elle a commencé comme chanteuse professionelle au cabaret Tropicana à la Havane. Il y a trois ans, Osdalgia a entamé sa première tournée européenne avec divers groupes féminins dont Grupo Canelo et Las Chicas del Sabor. Les amateurs de salsa auront peut-être reconnu sa voix sur le cd de l'Afrocuban Jazz Project (avec Maraca) où elle chante quelques numéros. 'La Culebra' (la couleuvre) est son premier cd. Produit par José Luis Cortès d'NG La Banda et joué par quasiment tout le groupe, ce disque a une consonance très moderne avec tout aussi bien du rap, de la timba, du jazz comme influences brésiliennes. On remarque les arrangements modernes des compositions de Benny Moré, le crooner légendaire des années quarante. Certains numéros comme 'Rumberos de Ayer' sont très bien réussis. Nous préférons néanmoins la première partie du cd d'Osdalgia en raison de la très bonne rythmique des chansons. Dans le numéro d'ouverture, le guaguanco 'Asi es la Humanidad', la Cubaine règle ses comptes avec les commères qui savent toujours raconter quelque chose sur les autres et qui aiment en rajouter rien que pour se rendre encore plus intéressantes. Un véritable numéro d'NG La Banda avec les instruments à vent typiques. La suivante, 'De Cuba' démarre sur les chapeaux de roues comme une chanson des Los Van Van et termine avec un clin d'oeil vers l'incontournable numéro de jazz 'Summertime'. C'est d'ailleurs le meilleur numéro de l'album ensemble avec la plage titulaire. Avec 'Beribe' nous évoluons tout doucement vers un timba-rap, une collaboration ingénieuse avec le trio cubain Amazena dont on entendra sûrement encore parler. La cinquième plage, l'entraînant 'Donde estabas Tu?" est à son tour un son de pure souche. Tout bien considéré, cet album n'est pas mauvais, mais la chanteuse veut coûte que coûte convaincre en mélangeant le plus de styles possibles, ce qui réduit les pas de danse.
