Salsaweb Cityguide Homepage Well, there isn't much going on in Nassau, it's a laid-back kind of place...just a stop on your way to anywhere in the Caribbean, but if you happen to find yourself there, caressed by the island breezes and sitting under a palm tree, listening to the calypso music and the gentle thunder of the waves on the white sand beaches, and you get an urge to go dance Salsa, then you'd better hope that it is a Friday night at Chippies! Kaysee reviewed the club on March 11, 2000 and had this to say: "We didn't get there until about midnight. Actually, this worked out well, since according to my friend who arrived before me, they played all the really bad music earlier. Several observations: 1. Environment: The wooden floor inside is only slightly more even than the tiles, but it is more comfortable on the feet. It's louder inside, since the sound is contained instead of floating off. 2. Music: I was more pleased tonight with the mix. They played about 1/2 Salsa and 1/2 merengue, with the obligatory Mambo #5 and Ricky Emmie thrown in as the only interrupters. There was more PR / NY Salsa, but the D.J. also put on a couple of Cuban Salsas as well. At least one of them was Manolito y su Trabuco, but I forget which one it was now, and again, the crowd danced to them, with plenty of people just faking it. 3. Crowd/Dancing: The place was less crowded, and there was a group of people who obviously danced Salsa on a regular basis. Also, it seemed that there is a regular group of cruise ship workers who patronize the local. I really like the very eclectic crowd; it is a mixture of just about every group of people one can meet in the Bahamas, an example of what makes 'Little Nassau' so cosmopolitan, despite it's small size. Overall, I am more pleased than the week before. I feel better about recommending the Latin night to you as a result. Now, to convince the management that booking a live band is a good idea!"
