HI!!
You found us in the midst of all the BIG countries and counties in the
Salsaweb Cityguides.
Let me give you a short description about the
whereabouts of Curaçao. Curaçao is the largest and most populous island of the
Netherlands Antilles. It lies between Aruba and Bonaire about 35 miles off Venezuela's
north coast and is home to 160,000 ethnically diverse people. On a clear day you can see
Aruba, Bonaire and Venezuela from the top. ![map-carib[1].jpg (13369 bytes)](images/map-carib1.jpg)
Curaçao has a rich and diverse history, it has over 50 different ethnic backgrounds which
explains the international flavor of its culture and the curious mixture of Old and New
World charm. Dutch is the official language of Curaçao but Papiamento (a combination of
Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish & English) is widely spoken. English is often used in
tourist areas. Currency: Netherlands Antilles Florin. Fixed exchange rate with US dollar:
$1.- is NAFL. 1,77 for bank notes.
The average temperature on Curaçao is 82 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Celsius). But in
the summer it's around 91 F (around 32 degrees)

Always there is a northeasterly
breeze,
where you can see the famous "Divi Divi"
trees bend from blowing and we are
fortunately outside of the hurricane belt.

In
the background you see the Juliana bridge which
connects one side (Punda) of the island to the other
(Otrobanda).
At the right a
picture of one
of our beautiful beaches, Cas
Abao. After a night of dancing
you want to relax your feet in
the sand and water. You won't
find this color of water in Hawaii, or Australia, nor along the coast of Florida or the
Red Sea. The Southern Caribbean water has a color all its own.
Last August we
had a HUGE event, 2 weeks of Sun, Sea and Salsa in the Caribbean.
"The Curaçao Salsa Tour 2000"
Edie, The Salsa FREAK was our guest of honor and ........ well you better check
it out for yourself. TONS of pictures and Edie her daily write up about the Salsa Tour. |

Edie, The Salsa FREAK, among other friends I
have in LA, kept asking "WHEN" I would come visit LA! Of course I wanted to come
and see my friends and check out the LA salsa scene, but well, LA isnt just next
door, and I always said that if I would come some day. I wanted to at least stay for a
week or so. Not just a Congress or Convention style of travelling, which is usually 3 or 5
days.
I had recently quit my job and therefore had time
on my hands. Besides that, my 30th birthday was coming up and I wanted it to be special.
This was the perfect timing for traveling.
I emailed Edie, cause "wow this girl is
always so busy I wasnt sure if it was just as perfect for her as it was for me.
"YES!!!" she was going to be in LA and she had time!!
I couldnt
believe I was going to LA !!
On October 29th I left Curaçao
for the long trip to LA, but it was worth while.
Edie picked me up from the airport, and asked me if I would
mind going to a Halloween party. "Huh are we first going to your home, can I change
clothes??" "No were going right now"
I keep forgetting when I travel that were here on the island are spoiled and
everything is so close, if you have to drive here for more then 10 minutes, its
considered FAR!!
"Well lets go then!" Outside on
the parking place I thought I was freezing, I WAS!! It was cold but as soon I entered the
Sportsmens Lodge (hosted by none other than Albert Torres) the body heat of all the
dancing people warmed me up.
Soon after I was making my first LA dance!! ......continue |
